Re: Jeep JK Wrangler (Axial) Build

I have been working on the front and rear bumpers. So far I have the rear bumper together and the front bumper started. I need to get some better dimension on the 3racing winch to built the tray up front. When it's done and mounted, it doesn't seem like much but there are a lot of hours invested. I could probably make it a little easier on myself if I had a proper workshop and better power tools. The eventual plan is still to powder coat, but I want to try everything out on the trail first. Black paint will work fine for that.

mike you have to build your own to be able to say that.

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered...I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." -Thomas Jefferson

Re: Jeep JK Wrangler (Axial) Build

I got tired of doing metal work. Or should I say, my hands needed a break from the abuse. Those small drill bits have a tendency to break and end up in my left hand! So, I decided to make a trip to Wal-Mart and procure some material for building scale tow straps and bungee cords. By no means am I the first to do this, but hey why not document it along with everything else.

    Scale Accessory Material.JPG[/attachment:g53nvu46]

Basically a scale tow strap starts with a wide shoe lace of various loud and horrible colors, for shoe laces anyway. My only guess is that these, in their original form, are intended for kids. Some heat shrink tubing and my trusty super glue is the only other items needed. Basically it is super simple. Cut a section of tubing and slide over shoe string. Position the tubing about 3/4" away from the point where the plastic tip has been severed. Apply heat from your wife's hair dryer, after getting permission of course. Once it has shrunken down bend around a small screwdriver until it cools. It will stay in this shape now. Next glue the end and slip a larger piece of tubing over the freshly glued section. Repeat heating process, but this time squeeze with your fingers to get it to lay flat. Repeat on other end and you are ready to pull your buddy from any disaster he has gotten himself into, or vica-verca.

    Tow Strap 1.JPG[/attachment:g53nvu46]

    Tow Strap 2.JPG[/attachment:g53nvu46]

    Tow Strap 3.JPG[/attachment:g53nvu46]

The bungee cords comprise of #10 fishing hooks with all the pointy bits trimmed and hair tie thingies (HTT). I have no idea what the real name is. Cut the HTT and insert the fish hook, minus the eyelet into the elastic portion. The fish hooks I used had these little hooks along the shaft which seemed to hold them in pretty well. Now a small piece of heat shrink tubing and voila the bungee is born.
