    Got me a Basher :)

so i was browsing ebay a week or so ago and saw this rig for $158 shipped. it's an hpi rtr crawler king land rover defender 90. i figured screw it and ordered it. i knew when i ordered it that it will never be comp worthy, but would be a good back yard basher and/or snow truck. here's a pic. all stock except tires. i threw my moab's on it for a more scale look. i gotta say this is a fun truck to mess around with.

LOL...though when i opened it up and was looking at it i noticed where hpi mounted the servo......get this....its mounted on the top of the chassis on the rear of the rig.... WTF!!!! so that's one mod i gotta do.

Yes they had an "interesting" way to mount the servo. Most guys made mounting plates for the servo on the front axle. If you need some ideas, I have a few templates made by others, should be easy for you to make.

Looks cool though, It will make a nice rig to just have fun with, the axles/trans are good.

Would that be a good starter scale truck? Or just a basher?

I am not familiar with this rig, but I am not sure if it would be legal for scale rules. It depends on the chassis. They allow plastic tubs like the CC01. From the picture it looks more like a crawler chassis.

Re: Got me a Basher :)

i dont think this would be a great starter for a scaler at all. this rig is pretty freakin big. it makes my 2.2 comp rig look like a 1.9. no lie. i just bought it cuz i like the body and need something to beat up on and run in the snow. as for the chassis, it's crap. but, yes, a crawler chassis, rather than a scaler. actually, it is scaled to a monster truck chassis. as for the servo mount i grabbed some templates from rcc.. are those the ones you have quirk? i got a BTA i wanna make. and yes you read right. the servo is mounted in the rear. this thing has no steering what-so-ever. here's a pic from the internet...

see where the receiver is? (look for the lil blue crystal tab in the rear) well, the receiver sits on top of the servo. steering is achieved through a series of links and levers. by far the stupidest thing i've come across so far.. but like i said..it'll make for a good winter project.

Not a great start for a scaler????

Those are dangerous words, someone told me that a while back.....
    This was my reply

Yes it has Wheely King axles and trans, of course the chassis went south fast.

    i love that friggin thing.

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered...I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." -Thomas Jefferson

Just takes imagination and determination. I did narrow the axles by roughly 1 1/4" though.
