I think dirty's point is that the power to " take over" at will, has been snuck into this bill. Which, our leaders do all the time. They get us all caught up in the hype, and while our attention is diverted, they sneak things like this into law.

I fail to see what's so "great" about it.
"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered...I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." -Thomas Jefferson

I agree with dirt. Our government strips our rights at an alarming rate. After 9-11, they passed that anti-terrorism act. We were stripped of rights in the name of terrorism. As if the American public can no longer handle the responsiblity of said rights. But, all of us were so caught up in the twin towers, the physical aspect of it all, and the loss of lives, the emotional aspect of it, that we never even questioned the act...its the ole waive the right hand and slap'em with the left hand tactic..
Don't get me wrong, I was affected the same as everyone else from the events of 9-11. But, for instance, I don't think the events of that day gives the government the right to track me via cell phone, or even turn my cell on if its off to listen to me. Which, they can now do thanks to that anti terrorism act.. the government has openly admitted to this when they brought down that crime family in Chicago. Got them on the cell phones with no aid of a 'tap'. And used said conversations obtained from their cell phones to convict them..
Hell, even Google is in on it now...anyone read the new end user agreement???

here is how my local government screwed me. i changed insurance policy's on my harley on jan 1st and the new one picked up the 21st of jan so 20 days went by. now i am guilty of riding it and have to prove that i am innocent or i loose my registration on it and am suspended for 4 months and have to pay a 50 fee to restore. they cant prove i rode it but they are making me prove to them i didnt. so i am guilty of a crime that i did not commit. i mean really who the eff rides in the middle of jan when its 4 deg. outside. i had to write a letter and take it to a notary. now of all the notary's i went to none would help me saying how do we know that you didnt ride it. well to all the stupid notary's out there that is not your job. your job is to verify that i wrote the letter and i was the one who signed it. not weather what i wrote is true or not. my friends mother is a notary and i got the whole lesson from her and let me tell you she is a strict lady. she was more then happy to help me get it sorted out. i just love being guilty of a crime and have to prove my innocence when the laws are written "innocent until proven guilty". BULLSHIT. now it just makes me want to screw the state out of what ever i can to get even.

We'll see what time brings, but I for one am NOT going to sit around and WAIT for it to happen.
Keep in mind also that the olympics are this year, I would not be surprised to see something happen while everyone's eyes are glued to the idiot box.

The actual articles in the NDAA that define martial law are quite frightening. Food stocking, or hoarding, will not be allowed. House to house inspections may be implemented to assure that no food storage or weapons are in homes. Resources will also be rationed. Resources like water, electricity, food, transportation. Also, citizens can be forced into labor to aid the government . Citizens deemed beligerent can be detained by military and held with out trial for any amount of time. In the bill the term beilgerent is not defined. Nor is it defined who will deem persons beligerent. Scary stuff...
What this boils down to is the fact that the bill of rights can be deemed null and void. It shreds a few pages from the constitution. The right to bear arms, the right to gather in numbers, the right to free speech, can all land you in a detention facility. If, of course, our government feels we are a threat.
