    Got Another One

so this came across my desk today, literally. Got it for $10. yup, ten bucks. guy i work with (the one i bought the lcc from) bought this 6 months ago, and well i guess it just sat in the box. i dont know why he wanted ten bucks, and to be honest, i didnt ask. after trading my last micro a few months ago, i really had no intentions or desire to get back into micros. but, for $10, screw it.

so, i guess im gonna do a scaler with it. i'm tossed up between a land rover or a mog. i think i may go with the mog, and do a trails truck. we'll see.

I'm sayin, a micro D110 would be the cats jammies. As would a mog tho, I have seen kits other than mine but not cheap. I got my revelle mog for like 22 bucks I think.

yea, so i decided to go another route....

after reading many different threads with varying opinions on the ridgeback chassis, i ordered one. (well it was a bday present from the wife) At first i used dockmans measurements and everything came out right on the money. wheelbase at 5.4". however, the rig seemed to long and narrow for my liking. i have purchased and made wheel wideners for my last micro, but the 1/4" or so add width still would not have made this rig look right. proportional is the better word i guess. anyway, at a 5.4" w.b., i did notice some issues. i wasnt getting full articulation because the uppers were rubbing against the shocks. so i decided to go another route. i cut the tail and fin pieces where one of the two screws go that hold the tail/nose to the chassis. i then mounted the shocks on the inside of the chassis. mount the tail and nose back together using only one screw and i was done with it. then i shortened the links and drive shafts. i did bent lowers all around. really helped with clearance. placing the shocks here also made it smoother when articulating. also seems to run better in a semi-droop setup.

used the same stuff as in other folks threads.
    -mini-t rod ends
    -2-56 threaded rod
-driveshafts i spun on the lathe are 5/16" aluminum rod with a .235'' bore (for a press fit for the female shaft)

everything else is stock. except for the boggers i also got "thumbsup"

all in all i like this chassis. considering i traded my first micro because i got bored with it, i really like this one. i think as far as the comp aspect, this is the kick in the *** the micro scene needed. it looks good, and with a few easy mods, it performs great. the only downside that i see is there really is no where for battery placement. though, i have not researched any smaller batteries. (running a 2s 350mah lipo)

+edit i just placed the stock battery on and it looks like it will fit nice on the rear axle it also should be noted that a wheel base of 5.4" might be good for qlo tires. i dont have a set, so i dont know.

here's how she sits right now @ 5" w.b.. wheel wideners are my next project.

everything pretty well balanced. this is minus the battery.

heres how i mounted the rear shock. note that you can not place the shock in the screw hole right by the front or rear "windsheild". (the plastic pieces that hold the 3 rails on the top of the chassis. )

Looks good Rik. I was just messing around with mine tonight for the first time this summer. I use 2s 250mah LiPo's and they fit nicely on the rear axle. Anyway to use BTA with your new chassis?

so i made some side panels today. i guess i will dub it the pepsi crawler. i used 3m double sided tape to adhere the panel on and an exacto knife to trim it. the exacto was also used to punch starter holes for the shock mounts, tranny screws, and the screws for the nose and tail fins. a .078" and a .062" drill finished said holes. gonna work on the tail and nose tonight or tomorrow night. though the top panel will be tricky as it is a compound radius, and will require lots of cuts to get it to look right. the nice thing about these panels, is the fact they will show rock rash. which can be seen in the pics.
